The ITAR teledeck is a place to explore the space in between augmented, virtual, and physical realities. To that end, we today began the assemblage and testing of our cyborg avatar supersuit, sigh-ber1.
Q: Does the Leap Motion sensor detect the hands?
A: Yes, stability needs improvement, but we are wireless transmitting hand distance, rotation, position, and existence.
Q: How bad is the delay sending a USB connected gopro, wirelessly over NDI, to the system core, into a zoom call, and back to the avatar?
A: Not great, around 500ms, but not entirely unworkable.
Q: Does viewing your surroundings through a zoom chat viewed on a head mounted display cause instant headaches?
A: No! But my brain did start to feel “weird” after viewing life through a 500ms delay. Fortunately, this shouldn’t cause an issue for the end viewers, but I’m sure our gamemasters will complain about it.
